Seismic design of non-dissipative embedded column base connections

چکیده
Embedded Column Base (ECB) connections in seismically resistant steel moment frames are commonly designed to be stronger than the connected column, protect them from inelastic actions. This relies on estimation of demands induced by column and strength capacity themselves. However, recent research indicates that prevalent approaches may unconservative for both demand estimation, with consequence unintended damage/failure connection. Motivated above, this (1) characterizes seismic ECB connections, (2) evaluates various models these support improved design approaches. is done through a virtual test program uses validated continuum finite element simulations interactive column-ECB subassemblies. The results suggest current unconservative, i.e., they underestimate while also overestimating resistance, possibility unintentional nonlinear behavior within embedded portion undesirable, because not usually detailed provide plastic deformation capacity. A method proposed estimates anticipated flexural non-dissipative along recommendations regarding models. To accomplish this, incorporates local cross-sectional slenderness, gravity-induced axial load conjunction combinations imposed standards. sensitivity material grade, loading history, studied, limitations approach outlined.

non-linear seismic behavior of concrete beam - column connections
a parametrik investigation was conducted to study the non-linear behavior of precast and cast-in-place reinforced concrete beam-column connections subjected to tabas seismic forces (1979). the behavior of these types of connections in a four stories structure with respect to strength, ductility , stiffness, and bond deterioration at the joint core are presented and discussed. calculation result...
متن کاملMathematical Modeling of Column-Base Connections under Monotonic Loading
Some considerable damage to steel structures during the Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake occurred. Among them, many exposed-type column bases failed in several consistent patterns, such as brittle base plate fracture, excessive bolt elongation, unexpected early bolt failure, and inferior construction work, etc. The lessons from these phenomena led to the need for improved understanding of column base...
متن کاملBeam-to-Column Connections with Demountable Energy Dissipative Plates
The behavior of steel structures subjected to seismic actions depends directly on the connections behavior. There are two current tendencies for ensuring the structural ductility: allowing the formation of plastic hinges in the beams by using reduced beam sections or reduced web sections or by ensuring the plastic hinge formation in the connection by using dissipative elements. This paper prese...

متن کاملSeismic Design Considerations for Precast Concrete Shear Wall Connections
The performance of precast shear wall panel structures subjected to earthquakes relies on the behaviour and integrity of the connections between the panels. The current lack of knowledge on the seismic behaviour of precast wall connections limits the use of such systems in earthquake areas. This paper presents results of an extensive experimental program undertaken at the University of Manitoba...
